The board is made from a 10 and 11 inch cakeboards sticked together with candymelts. Cover with 600 gram beige fondant, stick the borders to the board.
For the cirkels the PME tool (upper right) were used. First I have used a scriber tool, here after a balltool to give depth and round the stones. Don't try to work symetrical, it looks nicer if it isn't
Use a bunch of thoothpicks to spike holes. Dilute brown dust with a lot of water and paint the whole board. Excess is removed with a papertowel, leave to dry completely.
Don't worry about the sides
Apply a strip of brown fondant (I have used two strips, but you can use one wider)
Cut a yellow border using this FFM cutter en remove cirkels with a 12 piping tube
Stick the border to the brown fondant and paint golden, I have used Metallic golden sands from Rainbow dust (not visible yet on this photo)
Stick two smal strips of beige fondant and treat with thootpicks and diluted dust as before. The board is finished!
Mold the torso of Mowgli, eventually he will be placed on the belly of Balou so use your baking pan to dry (in my case Wilton Sports ball) Pierce the torso with a wooden stick.
Backside of the torso, I have used Saracino Modeling paste for Mowgli
Sculpt the legs but don't stick them to the torso
Sculpt the trousers of Mowgli and stick the legs to the torso, I have used coctail picks
Sculpt the arm, I used a mold of Sweetchoice for the hands. Support the arm so that they can dry relatively high.
The base of balou is cake baked in the Wilton Sportsbal
Flatten the ball on one side to keep it stable
Balou is getting shape, now cooling down. I have used a second cake to scupted the base and ganached it all
Mowgli is done!
Hollow a black ball of fondant, place on the head and cut were necessary
I have used Sweetart fondant to cover Balou (adviced for 3D cakes)
The outer parts are covered in darkgrey
The tummy in light grey, used regular fondant
Place balou on the board
Sculpt his feet
Sculpt his left arm
And stick to the body using candymelts
Don't forget his tail!
Place Mowgli on the tummy of Balou
Sculpt his right arm and stick on the head of Mowgli
Front view, Mowgli has a wooden stick through his body and in the belly of Balou for support
To avoid a lot a weight for the head of Balou I have used styrofoam balls
cover with fondant (any color)
Base of the head prepared with white fondant
Place the head and fill with fondant to get a smooth area between head and back
Back of the head and mouth covered with fondant, at the front I have cut too many, cut at the seam of dark and light grey.
Cover top of the head, apply details and position eyes
Finish face and nose
Appply ears
