Started with a partially frozen cake by carving the general shape of the helmet.
With the rest of the 9'x13' cake I carved the face details: the two pieces for the helmet, the eyes " i used a cookie cutter to make both the same size then straightened both from one side", the nose, the cheeks and finally the breather "not sure if that is the right word for it!"...anyhow..
I put aside the carved pieces, iced the helmet, the put them back and iced them onto the cake. You are welcome to fill the helmet with whatever filling you want, I just skipped this step.
Covered the whole thing with one big piece of black fondant, then with my hands and fingers smoothed it around the details. Then added the other fondant details: the long strip on the top of helmet, the eyebrows, the lines on the nose and the breather using a spatula.
Added the piece around the breather, along with the straight ones in the middle.
More details: three gray pieces and the triangle.
Closer look of the triangle.
And here you go, a simple darth vader helmet cake.
